Patent Agent Position

We are currently looking for a full-time permanent Patent Agent (Class 1) to join our team. In this role, you will work with an experienced and skilled team of patent and trademark agents to assist us in upholding our commitment to our clients in providing quick and efficient protection of their intellectual property.

This opportunity is suitable for an agent looking for a position where they can meaningfully contribute to a long-standing firm and is interested in potential opportunities for management and international business promotion, in a modern flexible work environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Drafting, preparing, and filing domestic and international patent applications, and all aspects of prosecution
  • Working independently to manage own workload and clients
  • Working with clients across existing portfolios and developing new clients
  • Supporting other agents in the firm with their workload, including trainee supervision

Qualifications

  • Patent Agent registered with the College of Patent Agents & Trademark Agents (CPATA) – Class 1
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in drafting and patent prosecution
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or PhD degrees in any discipline
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English required, French considered an asset)
  • Keen attention to detail and excellent time management sills

Administrative Assistant (Trademarks)

Kirby IP Canada is looking for an Administrative Assistant who is a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized individual with the desire to learn and to provide exceptional service to our teams and our clients.

The Administrative Assistant will work directly with a Trademark Agent to report and meet trademark due dates, and generally support their practice and clients.

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to)

  • Preparing, reviewing, and filing correspondence with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and with clients
  • Monitor trademark due dates and follow-up accordingly
  • Coordinate a high-volume workload with great accuracy and organization
  • Prepare and send invoices to clients
  • Prepare and file new trademark applications
  • Pay trademark renewals, including classifications
  • Perform general and clerical and administrative duties

Qualifications 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a trademark administrative assistant
  • High level of technology literacy required (MS Office Suite, Web browsers, PDF programs, CIPO databases and e-filing systems)
  • Ability to take direction and to work independently under deadline pressure
  • Very strong organizational and written communication skills
  • Data entry accuracy and proficiency
  • Experience with Equinox IPMS and/or other cloud-based IP management system an asset
